La Paz bonebed
Basic information
Sample name: La Paz bonebed

Reference: A. Corona, D. Perea, P. Toriño, and C. Goso. 2012. Taphonomy, sedimentology and chronology of a fossiliferous outcrop from the continental Pleistocene of Uruguay. Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas 29(2):514-525 [ER 3789]
Geography
Country: Uruguay

Coordinate: 34° 44' S, 56° 17' W
Coordinate basis: stated in text

Time interval: Late Pleistocene

Geography comments: the formation is thought to be "late middle Pleistocene-early Holocene" based on biochronology but the authors appear to favor a Pleistocene and presumably Late Pleistocene age assignment for the fauna itself
there are two radiocarbon dates, one on Stegomastodon (17620 +/- 100 yr BP) and the other on Toxodon (5917 +/- 65 yr BP): the authors dismiss both because of "the absence of collagen" in almost all analysed specimens, but at least the first is consistent with a Late Pleistocene age assignment

Environment
Lithology: conglomerate

Habitat comments: "a preserved bonebed in a diamictite facies... located in a quarry" that "formed as a result of transport and deposition... during a high-energy event, like a mudflow"

Methods
Life forms: ungulates,other large mammals,birds

Sampling methods: quarry

Sample size: 91 specimens

Sampling comments: all available specimens were apparently listed, but a faunal list in the paper also mentions Ozotoceros cf. bezoarcticus, Hemiauchenia sp., and Ciconia sp.; these may be inventoried in Table 1 under broader names
